We challenge ourselves to look at all aspects of our business in a green light. Every day offers a new opportunity to rethink our procedures, product and supplies. We have been successful in our efforts so far and are proud to challenge other businesses to follow our four biggest programs.
#1 We Buy Local
We strive to buy local produce, dairy, and meat, and change our seasonally to reflect the freshest ingredients available.
We like this practice because it keeps money in the community, lowers carbon emissions that would have been the result of shipping produce, and just tastes better! We have been partnering with Sippel Family Farm in Mt. Gilead. All produce on the Sippel Family Farm is grown using sustainable principles and without synthetic chemicals.
All our eggs come from Holistic Acres farm in Ashland, Ohio. They are free range/open yard raised, antibiotic-and hormone-free with classic brown shells and tasty, beautifully bright yolks.
We are an affiliate member of Ohio Proud, a part of the Ohio Department of Agriculture. Ohio proud is a quick and reliable way for you to identify Ohio-made and grown goods.
Two Caterers is a proud member of Local Matters. Local Matters is an organization with programs and partnerships that were created to make sure that children
and adults know from where their food really comes and what healthy,
wholesome food is. They also support the community's need for better access to
healthy, local food and teach healthful ways to prepare it. Local Matters provides aid to local farmers that grow healthy food while helping them make a living
wage while they do it!
| #2 We Use Green Packaging & Products
When disposable food containers are necessary, we use compostable and recyclable products.
Individual clamshells, soup containers, and beverage cups are made from sugarcane - a rapidly renewing resource
that takes only 18 months to grow and
harvest. These containers break down in a matter of weeks.
Our "plastic" flatware are Cereplast Compostables® resins and are renewable, ecologically sound
substitutes for petroleum-based plastic products.Cereplast Compostables® resins are starch-based, made from corn, wheat,
tapioca and potato starches that primarily come from the Midwest
(versus oil from the Middle East).

We have also started using
new, greener office technology - a cartridgeless copier with inks that have 90% less waste than traditional laser toners.
| #3 We Recycle
We recycle 25% of all of our garbage through a commercial recycling program. Glass is taken to a local collection area.
| #4 We Compost
We are very proud of our compost pile! Nearly 50% of all of our garbage is composted on the lot of Two Caterers. A compost-turning party is a common occurrence here! The compost is used in our gardens. Herbs, tomatoes, pumpkins, squash, peppers, and more are grown right outside the door and make it into recipes daily.

“We live in a country in which food is taken for granted. It is important for people to make a connection with the food we eat. Understanding where our food comes from and what it takes to feed our community in a sustainable way is important to our company and to me personally. Two Caterers will continually strive to find ways to reduce reuse and recycle as well as explore the wealth of agricultural resources that Ohio has to offer.”
