We are pleased to announce that we are a recipient of a 2010 Ohio Environmental Council Environmental Achievement Award! We were honored at the Green Gala which was held on November 6th at the Columbus Atheneaum.

We were voted "Best Green Company" by the readers of Columbus CEO Magazine in 2010!

We challenge ourselves to look at all aspects of our business in a green light. Every day offers a new opportunity to rethink our procedures, product and supplies. We have been successful in our efforts so far and are proud to challenge other businesses to follow our four biggest programs.
1. WE BUY LOCAL.

We strive to buy local produce, dairy and meat locally. We seasonally change ingredients in order to use what is freshly available. We like this practice because it keeps money in the community, lowers carbon emissions that would have been the result of shipping produce and just tastes better!

Some of our community partners: Sippel Family Farm in Mt. Gilead, Canal Junction Farmstead in Defiance, Northridge Organic Farm in Johnstown.

We are an affiliate member of Ohio Proud, a part of the Ohio Department of Agriculture. Ohio Proud is a quick and reliable way for you to identify Ohio made and grown goods.

2. WE USE GREEN PACKAGING & PRODUCTS.
When disposable food containers are necessary, we use compostable and recyclable products. Individual clamshells, soup containers, and beverage cups are made from sugarcane - a rapidly renewing resource that takes only 18 months to grow and harvest. These containers break down in a matter of weeks.

Our "plastic" flatware is starch-based and is a renewable, ecologically sound substitute for petroleum-based plastic products. Made from corn, wheat, tapioca and potato starches that primarily come from the Midwest (versus oil from the Middle East). The products we use are "BPI-approved" meaning that the non-profit Biodegradable Product Institute has certified that the products have been tested and certified to be biodegradable in a managed composting facility. We use Genpak, Verterra and Eco-Products compostables. In addition, we use Green Heat chaffer fuel by Candle Lamp. This is an ethanol (plant-based) fuel versus methanol-based. The packaging is smaller than traditional fuel canisters and is recyclable.

We have also started using new, greener office technology - a cartridgeless copier with inks that have 90% less waste than traditional laser toners.

3. WE RECYCLE.
Our recycling dumpster routinely fills 4x as fast as our garbage dumpster. In recent years, we have reduced our waste stream by 50%. We bring glass back with us from events and make sure it makes its way to proper recycling dumpsters.

New employees quickly learn to rethink waste habits.
4. WE COMPOST.

We are very proud of our compost pile! Nearly 50% of all of our garbage is composted on the lot of Two Caterers. A compost-turning party is a common occurrence here! The compost is used in our gardens. Herbs, tomatoes, pumpkins, squash, peppers, and more are grown right outside the door and make it into recipes daily.

We want to give back to the supportive community that has helped make us successful. We are members of several non-profit organizations and proudly support groups around the area.
